Daily Grind

I’m currently high addicted to Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banuke, has this happened to another else, both shows come on G4 in the evening, they have been added to my DVR and I couldn’t be happier to be able to watch an episode whenever I feel like it since they come on about 4 times a day.  Jax has even gotten into it.  Yesterday I had posted a link about 10 summer shows to watch and catch up with, but those weren’t enough give these Japanese Game Shows a shot.

 Some News

Hooray, the Simpsons has been renewed for its 20th season, to think this show was controversial at one point and parents wanted it off the air ways.  20 years, wow, and still a great show.  And ultimately when you hear the word Simpsons you start to think of your favorite episodes.  For me I have 2 that will always stick out in my mind.  One, ‘The Lemon of Troy’, Shelbyville steals Springfields Lemon Tree, and its up to Homer and the gang to got a get it back:  highlights form the episode

Shelbyville is just like Springfield, just a little less lucky, in fact they have a Millhouse also, and the 2 Millhouses meet for the first time, here is the exchange

‘I thought I was the only Millhouse, So this is how it feels when doves cry.’

Also on this episode we discover that Shelbyville has its own Homer, voiced by Hank Azaria, him and his son are the same as Bart and Homer, good stuff.

One other funny quote fromt he episode, the Cops of Shelbyville, similar to Springfields, discover all the Springfield kids which leads to his quote

‘Looks like Springfield has a discipline problem,’ other cop ‘Yeah maybe that’s why we beat them nearly half the timein football’

Also one more thing about this episode, I was once intoxicated in a dorm room in Dallas, when some kind of food fight began, not a complete food fight mind you, just a few thrown items in a drunken haze, well one was a lemon, which prompted me to quote the show during the fight ‘You got citric acid in my eye’

If you want to check out the show, here is a link to it at Surf The Channel - the site is in Japanese but you should be able to figure it out, i have smart readers

My second all time favorite Simpsons episode is -The Cartridge Family, but I like to call it, Homer gets a Gun

After attending a Soccer match between Mexico and Portugal, a riot breaks out because of a lack of interest,  Marge fears for her family and wants a Security System installed, instead Homer buys a gun.  When it is revealed he has to wait 5 days for the gun, Homer drops the funniest line of the show, ‘If I had my gun right now, I’d shoot you’, while waiting the five days, Homer sits in his front yard as things fly by like a carnival shooting gallery, including Ned, hilarious stuff.

There are countless more Simpson favorites, I may even try to post some more later this week,  If you have one oyu are fond of, send it over and I will draw a quick review up for everyone

WOW, that is the best possible way I can describe what i witnessed on LOST last night and early this morning (didn’t start watching it until after the Spurs lost, so i had to finish it up this morning with my man Jax by my side, Jax ‘Is that a bad guy, how about him’, Dad ‘I have no clue clue who is good or bad anymore on this show’).  What happened to Jin, Sawyer, Elizabeth, the island????  John Locke is a pimp, crazy Jack with psycho beard cracks me up, and as always Kate, simply Kate, weilding the gun, ready to strike.  One of the best parts of last night’s show for me, was the sweet fight scene between Sayid and the mercenary sent to kill Ben Linus, epic battle.   Oh, and Sawyer dropped a sweet line (as usual) went he referred to the lawn mower man as Kenny Rodgers, great stuff.  Ok, now that i got that off my chest, on to the news.

Good news, Mad Men returns July 27th, if you haven’t seen this AMC TV Drama, go buy season 1, or illegally download it.  Great show

100 greatest guitar songs of all time, I think number 2 should be number 1, but I love the left handed guitar genius

The Two Coreys returns June 22nd

Clay Aiken to be a father, this is not a typo

What is stranger?  Joan Jett to appear on Law and Order, or the fact that she survived her guest role on Walker, Texas Ranger in 2000

New Music Tuesday

By Jaxwing On April 22nd, 2008 in Music, Daily /

Ah the release of a CD, it’s kind of lost its luster in the new MP3 / Downloading world, and this week is no different with the new releases

This week’s list:

Flight of the Conchords by Flight of the Conchords – OK, so this CD is based on the semi-hit television show by the same name on HBO. I loved the show, and I encourage people to give it a chance. A few of my favorite tunes from the CD and the show are

     Hipopoptamus vs. Rhymenoceros

     Robots

The Most Beautiful Girl (in the room)

The duo is very entertaining, give it a shot

Good to be Bad by Whitesnake – I kid you not people, apparently Whitesnake has a new album out, is it a coincidence that the new Whitesnake album comes out the same year they are re-releasing the Camero, I think not

Bittersweet World by Ashlee Simpson – New nose, new album, probably the same old shit

Tapestry by Carole King – A re-release of the legendary album that every girl references on American Idol

(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman

    You’ve Got a Friend

    It’s Too Late

And so on.. until you shot yourself in the head

But finally, a release we have all been waiting for, he’s back baby

The Week That Was

By Jaxwing On April 18th, 2008 in Sports, TV, Music, Movies, Daily /

So as another crazy week here in the cube comes to a close.  As usual I will give you what I liked for the week and what you can wipe your ass with.

Best Movie:  Easy, Gone Baby Gone.   This movie has been out for a while now, and just has slipped past my grip on several occasions.  Directed by Ben Affleck, yes you remember him, big movie star, whose career was damaged in a blaze of glory the likes which have never been scene.  I’m a big Ben Affleck fan, everyone knows my love for all things Kevin Smith, and Affleck has been a staple in the View Askew universe, so when his world crumbled, and everyone piled on, it was tough to see, because I truly believe he is a good guy, who got caught with the wrong woman, and speaking from personal experience, it happens without you even knowing it, but like me, maybe he has found his groove again, washing away those memories and focusing on his true loves, his wife, his kiddo, and his career again.  Anyhoo, back to the movie, which stars Casey Affleck the before mentioned Ben’s younger brother.  If you are not aware of the acting chops of one Casey Affleck, look no further than this movie, he is great in it throughout, brings heart and desire to his character and truly makes you feel for the decisions he makes, right or wrong.  The story centers around the disappearance of a 3 – 4 year old child, Amanda McCready, she was abducted from her home, Patrick Kenzie (Affleck) is hired to help the Police locate her, 3 days after she has gone missing.  The Police are led by the mesmerizing Morgan Freeman as Jack Doyle, along with an even better actor Ed Harris as Remy Bressant, these 2 may be the finest actors we will ever get to see, they are simply amazing everytime they take the screen, I have long professes my desires for Morgan Freeman to run for president simply based on his performance as president in Deep Impact, his soothing voice would make me dig into my pockets to pay taxes, and Ed Harris, I have been amazed by him since I first saw The Right Stuff back on Microwave Television in my trailer, you just won’t fine 2 better actors in my book.  Looking for Amanda, Kenzie stumbles on to other crimes and lies, and what ensues must be seen to enjoy.  Ultimately, without ruining the movie is it better to lose the girl because the mom is a coke headed slut, or should the girl be found and reunited with her.  Amy Ryan delivers a knockout performance as the coked up mom of Amanda, she is simply painful to watch on the screen, but not in a bad way, in a way that you want to strangle her for getting her daughter in this mess.  Go out this week, and purchase, rent, or download this movie.  I loved it; I plan on watching it again to catch everything that is happening, and to soak in the beautiful performances and directing styling.  Nice come back Affleck, and as for Casey, with his performace in the Assassination of Jesse James, Casey is skyrocketing up the Hollywood call list as a grade ‘A’ actor, and someone everyone should take notice of

Best TV: Well, you probably read my Office review, so that is an easy way out.  And you know that every week I sing the praises of Top Chef.  So the best thing that I watched on TV this week, well I will go with Battlestar Galactica, now I’m sure everyone just skipped ahead, due to the nerd alert going off, but I really feel people, sci fi fans or not, need to give this show a chance.  It’s the best written, produced, and character driven show on television right now and this is its last beautiful season.  Starbuck is the best female character on television, period, she is well written, well acted, and a all around mess to view.

Best Music:  sadly I have not listened to one piece of music this week; I welcome suggestion from anyone out there.  In its place this week, I offer up the GISH album, released October 4, 1994, wow 14 years ago by the Smashing Pumpkins.  This was their first nationwide release under the Virgin Records label.  Corgan was at his best firing off riffs that will make your head spin, while adding his unique voice to all but one track, on this short but powerful 10 song disc.  ‘I Am One’ and ‘Siva’, blast the album off with hard hitting amped up rock, which then gets slowed down to my all time favorite Smashing Pumpkins song ‘Rhinoceros’, its soothing riffs and psychedelic sounds make for a wonderful 6 minues 32 seconds. Rounding out the CD is Da’Arcy’s (Bass Player) haunting ‘DayDream’ song, her only lead vocal I believe in the bands existence, I am most certainly wrong on this, but it’s the only one I can remember her singing lead vocal.  Give it a shot; I will be adding a few of the songs up on the blog songs widget on your left.

Best Article: As I have gotten a little to political here in the past few weeks, I will keep it light this week.  Here is a story about a Japanese Baseball team that quit in the second inning after being down 66 to nothing.  Guess they had to fall on the sword afterwards

Now the best part some say, the worst of the week

Sadly, this is starting to become easy, The Astros, in disastrous style this week, they lost 3 to 0 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, losing 4 to 3.  Way to go Valverde, you fucking gas can.

Although I haven’t watched it yet, I will throw the Real World 20 in here, I’m sure it’s more of the same drinking, fighting, arguing, humping, and hot tubing

And finally, all the 12 year olds that I demolished on XBOX live this week, one young gentleman thought it would try to match wits with me, started a arguement that lasted all of 2 sentences.

12 year old ‘Call of Duty 4 is way better than Halo 3’

Jaxwing’s retort ‘Yeah, well so are public hairs, get some’

See you guys next week

Death in America - Hip Hop

By Jaxwing On March 27th, 2008 in Music, Daily /

Anyone who has met me, or knows me for an extended period of time, knows my love for music.  So many moments in my life can be traced back to friends, music, and booze… they just all go perfect together… Getting the latest CD, popping in Tercel’s ride, and stopping to get Big Gulps to fill with (fill in the blank) liquor.  And most of the times, the music playing was RAP music.  It was a staple in my life between the years 1987 (First time I heard License to Ill) and sometime in the 2001.  What went wrong you might ask, easy, Tupac died and the music that started to come out after his death was absolute shit.  The death of Tupac and Biggie is definitely the death of HipHop in America for me.  Sure they were times after that I got excited about it, Eminem’s albums, and some Jay Z, mix in a few Common CDs, and the list for me after that is barren.  Now granted my world itself has changed since then, wife and kids, and whatever.  But what real changed since these 2 events was the quality for the HipHop music.  The shit that gets thrown out there now on a daily basis is some of the most worthless things on the radio, I can’t imagine growing up now and listening to it.  Everything is about rims, and bling, stupid teeth, freaks, and strippers.  What ever happened to a good ole 40 oz., a drive by, and a blimp that read ‘Ice Cube’s a Pimp’?  I’ll tell you, Eazy died from slinging his sauce across America and caught the HIV, Dre went on to do some great shit with Eminem but since the Chronic has not achieved the same type of success, and Ice Cube, wow, the saddest of all, he is apparently the next Bill Cosby, and is making family movie after family movie, yes the same guy that once yelled ‘F*ck the Police’, is now going to play the role of BA Baracus in the A Team movie that is certain to be a disaster (no word on if he will have the mo-hawk and fear of flying though).  Today seems easier than ever to make a HipHop album, here is the formula:

  • Sample some music
  • Loop the same words over and over again (example Party like a Rock Star)
  • Talk about stupid shit that has no social matters involved
  • Get P Diddy to produce
  • Get into a stupid verbal spat with another fellow rapper, I mean hip hop artist

All this equals gold records and platinum teeth. Congrats HipHop world, you have managed to take something that was truly great, and brought a whole different generation in, and then somehow make it a gimmick.  Now I see these jackasses with there pants down to the knees, 5 X shirts on a no X body, and a freaking black panty hose on there head.  And if I have to hear about making it rain again, I’m going to lose my mind.  We need Tupac back, to police these people, you think you would ever see Tupac in a 5 X shirt, hells no, he would be sporting his THUG LIFE tattoo on MTV and throwing 2 fingers in the air while spitting on the camera.  Do I think anything will change, absolutely not, my greatest fear to see my son with a 5 X shirt, and not because he played video games the whole summer and ate chocolate cake for breakfast.  But someone how I can’t hide him from this world for long, sooner or later he will rebel, we all did it, I choose NWA as my outlet, topped off with a little Geto Boys for good measure.  Did I turn out a deviate?  Did I someone how go crazy and perform drive bys myself?  Did I get shot in the eye like Bushwick Bill?  The answers to all of these questions is NO.  What needs to change, nothing, there is absolutely nothing that can be done about stupidity, it has been around longer than all of us, I mean explain the success of Pet Rock, or Tom and Jerry cartoons, or even the Eagles.

In the end, Hip Hop Rap died, September 13th 1996, in a drive by no less, produced by P Diddy.

Damn U Diddy

As always, comments welcomed
